Ryan is a 2012 and 2016 Olympian that was born in Halifax and was raised in Windsor, N.S. He began paddling with his brother Justin at seven at a small club in Windsor. Ryan was the first athlete from the Pisiquid Aquatic/Pisiquid Canoe Club to go to the Junior Worlds, Canada Games, Senior Worlds, Pan Am’s and of course the  Olympics in 2012. Some of Ryan’s best results include:

  •  Winning the national championship Juvenile men’s k2 500m by open water with his brother Justin Cochrane as a Pisiquid Athlete
  • Winning multiple other medals including K1 as a Pisiquid Athelte
  • Winning National team trials multiple times as well as placing top 2 on occasion in both K1 and K2 events
  • Wining Senior Men’s K2 200m at Pan Am Championships twice
  • Winning a Bronze medal at a World Cup event as well as placing in the top nine multiple times in Men’s K2 200m
  • Competing in the Senior World Championships and making the Final in Men’s K2 200m
  • Coming Top 7 at the Olympics in 2012 and Top 8 at the Olympics in 2016

Ryan has many other results not listed, but two other important events include Ryan recently graduating from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax with a degree in BSc in Psychology; as well as having a baby girl Layla with fellow Olympian Mylanie Barre.  Ryan continues to push towards the 2020 Olympics; as well as supporting the Pisiquid Canoe Club always.
